Abstract Putting its main focus on employability, the article introduces the concept of career management competence (CMC) and considers its socio-economic background. It explores features of student-centred learning (SCL) with a focus on the enhancement of active reflective learning (as achieved by outcome-based teaching and learning and by research-based learning). As common ground between CMC and SCL it identifies an emphasis on personal agency and the ability to build on academic knowledge in relation to the world of work and to society at large, as well as in relation to personal academic and professional development. Three cases from different countries, institutions and contexts spotlight key features of these issues. (HRK / Abstract übernommen)
