Abstract ERASMUS, the internationalization programme of the European Union, is famous for its ?mobilising effect? on students and teachers in higher education. But does it also have an institutional impact? This question was explored in the framework of a study on the contribution of ERASMUS to quality improvement in European higher education.By means of a survey among all participating institutions and additional case studies, an international research consortium investigated whether ERASMUS triggered or facilitated sustainable improvement in the following fields: teaching and learning, student services, quality assurance, institutional profiling as well as mobility, networks and cooperation. The survey addressed university leadership, central programme coordinators and also ERASMUS coordinators at decentralized units. This publication presents the results of the study in a condensed form. Special attention is given to the findings of the survey providing detailed insights into the various stakeholders? perceptions concerning the impact of the ERASMUS programme on European higher education institutions.
