Abstract
|
This paper explores some practical and pedagogic considerations which contribute to developments regarding academic qualification and professional preparation for nursing. The focus is on determining how educators can develop and deliver European nursing education for the future, maximizing opportunity within the context of competing and complimentary demands of key legislation and guidance. Implementation of the Bologna process; the Directive on the Mutual Recognition of Professionals (Directive EU/36/2005); and achievement of workforce requirements (Department of Health and Consumers1, 2008) offer three examples. The work of the Federation of European Nurse Educators (FINE) illuminates participation by nurse educators, and the way that such informal networks can support professionals and contribute to wider debate.
