Abstract Universities are faced with less public funding, more demands and increasing competition. Therefore, they have to move from just administering an organization to managing it. Leaders in higher education institutions need to understand the concepts and tools in financial management, quality management, human resource management, in marketing, in internationalization and many other areas.
