Abstract
|
This chapter explores higher education partnerships in the unique space of borderland regions, where the progress of such alliances can be subject to a variety of issues, including the complexities of economics, politics, language, and quality of life. It offers an overview of existing research and information about borderland collaborations, as well as a detailed case study derived from an American Council on Education (ACE) report on U.S.-Mexico higher education partnerships (Helms & Griffin, 2017). While each border context is unique, the examples and analysis included illustrate the particular types of opportunities and challenges that arise in cross-border academic collaborations, and provide insights on borderland partnership dynamics that may be helpful in guiding the development and success of such relationships in other parts of the world.
