Abstract The paper describes Russian socio-cultural context for the current reform in higher education and looks into the role of the Bologna process in the reform. It identifies two periods in using the Bologna principles in Russia, outlines the major legal and practical steps in implementing the Bologna principles. The assessment of degree of influence of the Bologna process and its outcomes for the Russian HE system is offered. The consequences of the Bologna process are placed into the wider national context of Russian HE reform. (HRK / Abstract übernommen)
