The General Assembly of the German Rectors' Conference (HRK), which met today for the first time by video conference, has elected three new members to the HRK Executive Board and confirmed two members in office.
The General Assembly elected the following new members to the Executive Board:
Professor Oliver Günther, Ph. D., computer scientist and, since 2012, President of the University of Potsdam, as HRK Vice-President focussing on the key areas of “Governance, Teaching and Learning”,
Professor Dr Kerstin Krieglstein, neuroscientist and pharmacologist, Rector of the University of Freiburg since October and former Rector of the University of Konstanz, as HRK Vice-President focussing on the key areas of “Research, Early Career Researchers, University Medicine and Health Sciences”, and
Professor Dr Dorit Schumann, economist and, since 2019, President of the University of Trier, as HRK Vice-President focussing on the key areas of “Interfaces in the Higher Education System, Equality and Diversity”.
The following Executive Board members were confirmed:
Professor Dr Monika Gross, former President of Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin, as Vice-President focussing on the key areas of “Universities and Digitalisation”
and
Professor Dr Bernd Scholz-Reiter, Rector of the University of Bremen, as HRK Vice-President focussing on the key area of “International Relations”.
Their respective terms of office will commence on 1 December 2020 and end on 30 November 2021. According to the HRK’s rules of procedure, the term of office of Vice-Presidents always expires at the end of November after presidential elections; these are planned for 27 April next year.
In addition to the Presidents, the respective Spokespersons of the Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences Member Groups also sit on the Executive Board.
HRK President Peter-André Alt thanked the outgoing Vice-Presidents, Professors Carola Jungwirth, Johanna Weber and Birgitta Wolff, as well as the previous Spokesperson of the Universities Member Group, Professor Dr Ulrich Radtke, for their commitment and good cooperation on the Executive Board.
Yesterday, the HRK Universities of Applied Sciences Member Group re-elected Professor Dr Karim Khakzar, President of Fulda University of Applied Sciences, as its Spokesperson, and the HRK Universities Member Group elected Professor Dr Anja Steinbeck, Rector of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, as its Spokesperson for the first time.
